Black Tea
Originates from the Assam region of India, where it is grown at a high altitude. Assam is home to 800 tea estates. This region is one of the main producers of tea in the world.
Black tea, like all teas, is originally green when harvested. The oxidation and firing process turns the tea black in color.
The majority of tea blending occurs in Amsterdam and Hamburg. Blending refers to the process in which tea brokers purchase tea and then package and label it under assorted name brands.
Processing
Tea leaves are harvested, inspected for quality, and hand sorted.
• Tea leaves wither as water evaporates from the leaves.
• Tea leaves ferment naturally.
• When oxidation occurs, the leaves turn brown. Additional heat and humidity are used to quicken this process so that it only takes a few hours.
Black tea is the most common of teas. It is consumed as iced, frozen, and hot by people all around the world. It truly is the all occasion tea.
